The Wayeb starts on the 13th February 2026 and ends on the 18th February 2026. When the Solar Calendar Ha’ab ends after 360 days, it concludes with 5 sacred days that have no overarching daily influence. It’s called the Wayeb.
While every day in the Mayan Calendar is governed by a sacred energy (nahual) that bring a unique quality and power to each day, the 5 days after the 360-day cycle of the Ha’ab Calendar are a time “without governors”. Meanwhile the lunar calendar, the ritual calendar called Tzolk’in, is still active and the daily nahuales of the Tzolkin still guide us. Just the solar nahuales are on holidays, so to speak.
Which some people see as a time for chaos and disruption, others sees as a holy time for introspection and reflection on the past year. It’s the perfect time to reflect on what happened over the past 12 months, what goals where achieved, which ones didn’t work out, what relationships taught us, what values and ideas we want to bring into the next year and what are daily action steps to helps us stay aligned to that.
For the Maya, the Wayeb is a time to not engage, other than in ceremony, not work, let go of distractions and superfluous things, clean out the house, give away things that are no longer needed, and prepare to start the new year fresh.
